Circle Based Mentoring
Circle Based Mentoring at The Launch Pad is focused on building connection through curiosity, listening, sharing respect, and providing support.
♦ Circle Mentoring operates on principles adapted from Boys to Men: Be curious, Listen, Accept and Encourage, along with other methods we’ve picked up along our way! The goal in all of our circles is to hold space for young people to share their thoughts, their fears, their feelings and their stories. The role of the mentor is to listen and show up as a safe, neutral, supportive adult who is not there to give advice.
♦ TLP runs circles for boy, girls, coed groups, juvenile justice programs, and more! Some circles run in local schools during the school day, and others are hosted right here at TLP.
♦ TLP recruits mentors for the Circle Mentoring Program from the community. Circle mentors are official TLP volunteers who have been interviewed and background checked. Where schools require it, they also pursue an IVP Fingerprint Clearance Card. TLP supports them through this process. We value our volunteer Circle Mentors and they really value their time sitting in the circle with young people.
♦ We offer a 5 day wilderness adventure for teens twice a year (Fall and Spring), a week long summer Adventure Camp that focuses on connecting teens with a variety of adventures through day trips, and we offer Adventure Club every other week, which take us to various locations around AZ. The Launch Pad values connecting youth to nature and giving them meaningful experiences outside, as well as opportunities to test their capacities and grow.
